On 6th December the volunteers made their last visit to Buckland Common in the 2017 season. It seemed strange to meet without Derek, who had been summoned by the NHS, and Val, acting as his chauffeur, but Stephen Barrow nobly stepped into the breach on APY Wagon duty. On a very overcast day, 10 volunteers set about clearing the lower end of the site.

Derek had chosen his absence to slip in some new items of equipment, pink forks. It is fair to say that they were not greeted with universal approval but at least they shouldn’t get lost!

At least some volunteers were not too proud to be seen with them …..

Fortunately, despite the darkening sky, it stayed dry and we very nearly cleared everything down to the bottom edge of the site to the right of the track, a huge achievement considering the short time we have been working there.

Stephen took his duties very seriously and at least triple checked the equipment back into the Wagon before we all headed to the warmth of the pub to celebrate a good day’s work. Thank you to everyone who came out to help.
