Last Friday, 16th December, 11 volunteers turned out in festive mood to clear a section of the Devonport Leat near Clearbrook. A recent recruit, Clare, braved Derek’s eagle-eyed supervision to have a go at strimming.

By lunchtime, fuelled by Rachel’s excellent Christmas cake, we had cleared most of the way to the golf course.

In the afternoon, we headed back towards the main road. Thanks to all who helped to leave another stretch of the leat looking tidy for the year.

To end the day, we headed to what has become an annual event, the Christmas celebration under the lone pine tree near DPA land on Sharpitor. We were joined by more volunteers who had been unable to make the workday and enjoyed mulled wine and festive treats to the sound of carols. We were a bit of a surprise to a passing runner!
