Our good friends from Western Mortgage Services came out to work on the DPA land holding at High House Waste, near Cornwood,  on Monday 7th November. Being veterans of DPA conservation work days they came armed with bacon butties all round to start the day!

The WMSL team at High House Waste

We cut down a huge amount of European gorse, improving the mix of vegetation as it is such an over-dominant species. In turn this will improve conditions for lots of the small fauna that rely on moorland vegetation. The size of some of the stumps shows just how huge the bushes had become.

The result of some hard work

In addition it will make access easier for walkers on their way to the site from the stile that crosses the Ford Brook.
After working so hard on Monday the team are coming out again next Monday so work with us on Leeden Hill, clearing gorse and scrub from the Bronze Age archaeology on the hillside. How’s that for dedication!
