James Paxman is leading a walk to explore the industrial archaeology of Powdermills, near Postbridge, on Thursday. As the name hints it was once the home of a major gunpowder factory – where better to put something as dangerous as that, than in the middle of a wide open space?

This is our second go at this walk as the previous one was conducted in thick fog, making it a bit difficult to appreciate all the sights and the isolated setting. You’d think that June was a safe bet for better weather, but after Sunday I’m not so sure. Fingers crossed for James and his walkers!
