On the 16th of December, we invite you to take part in our Chairman’s Christmas Walk.

The route will be between 3.5 and 4.0 miles and we will depart from Rees Jefferys car park, west of Merrivale. (PL20 6ST, SX539750).

Vista of tors - Cox, Great Staple and Great Mis Tors

Keith Ryan – Cox, Great Staple and Great Mis Tors

This walk on a clear day provides extensive views across West Devon, the South Hams, Plymouth Sound, towards the north and south coasts of Cornwall and Bodmin Moor. The route will ascend Little, Middle and Great Staple Tors, Roos Tor, and Cox Tor, close to the Pork Hill car park and finally we will walk a short section of the Grimstone and Sortridge leat. There are some dramatic rock formations on some of these tors. We will see some sett makers’ bankers, some boundary stones, and a paved section of a stone cutters’ trackway,

The walk does have some uphill sections and there are a couple of areas where the ground does get spongy at times so please ensure you have appropriate footwear.

This is a pre-Christmas walk so please feel free to wear Christmas jumpers or hats and the Chairman will provide mince pies at the end of the walk.
