DPA volunteers Val Barns, Derek Collins and Keith & Berni Ryan set up the DPA gazebo on the show ground at Chagford on Thursday 21st August in good weather. Their efforts were rewarded with a rosette from the show’s judging panel, being judged 2nd in the Trade Display section of the show – holding our own among the professionals!
The set-up is usually taken to four Dartmoor shows each year, this year being taken to South Zeal – for the Dartmoor Folk Festival, Chagford Show, Lustleigh Show and Widecombe Fair.
The purpose of the effort is several-fold: perhaps mainly to fly the flag and raise awareness of the Association and it’s objectives, to recruit new members and to raise funds by selling merchandise. The items sold are books – both new and those donated by members, maps old and new, membership packs, leisurewear of various types from gilets, morfs, hats, sweatshirts and fleeces etc, various other items and especially new calendars and Christmas cards – do you have yours yet? They are very good value, which is why people come back for more.
Believe it or not, we sold 120 packs of Christmas cards at this show which is very encouraging for the finances of the Association and all things considered, the DPA had a very good day.
